This time of year is when I notice the sun setting later and the temperatures getting warmer. Right now, I'm missing late spring and summer flowers.
Adam and I have created a beautiful backyard that I love spending time in. We have some grass because I can't not have grass. I miss that from Iowa. But Colorado Springs has a much drier climate, and having a grassy backyard is not worth the money (or the climate). So we ripped half the yard and rocked it off. We also ripped up another quarter of the yard and planted drought-resistant wildflower gardens.
As the wildflowers bloom, they are delightful to look at and even better to photograph. Although landscape photography is my first love, I also enjoy dabbling in close-up and macro shots.

Wildflower season in Colorado is fantastic, and it's not just in our backyard. You have to explore the area to see the natural beauty. We're lucky that Colorado has so many locations full of wildflowers.
I always look forward to visiting my in-laws during the summer because I can take photos of flowers grown in professional gardens. The timeshare we stay at always has blooming flowers all over their property. Breckenridge also has an alpine garden downtown along the Blue River. When we visit the in-laws in Fort Collins, Colorado State University grows a massive garden.
Summer in Colorado certainly has its own brand of magic. I can’t wait to experience that magic again soon.
Cheers.
Beautiful photos, Rachel. My favorite is the sunflower in bnw. I love the half-flower composition.
Beautiful photos, Rachel.
