I once knew Jan Opperman, an Indy car driver who raced in the Indy 500 one time. He started at the back of the pack and by the time the race was called for rain, had worked his way about halfway up.
I might have a photo of him somewhere in my negative files. He was a great guy.
I love those car shots, Rachel. In response to Jerrold’s comment, the green Lotus makes me think of the late, great Jim Clark, one of the greatest racing drivers ever. In 1965, he won both the F1 championship AND the Indy 500, one of only 6 drivers to win both races and the only one to do it in the same year. Sadly he died in a racing accident in 1968.
We have an Indy race here in Toronto each year and I’ve been to several practice sessions. Hearing all of those cars going around the track at once is a sound you won’t forget in a hurry.
Nice set of photos, Rachel. The "Lotus" shot made me smile. They had (have?) a great racing pedigree but I'm told that the acronym "LOTUS" stands for "lots of trouble, usually serious"...!!
I used to watch a good amount of NASCAR some time ago, but Sundays were also a photo opportunity day. I had to give up those four+ hours to be out there in the world. This brought back some fond memories. 😉
Yeah, I definitely found other ways to spend my time then watching a car make circles around a track, LOL. Glad to bring back some memories - that’s one of the reasons I write these newsletters!
As someone who has been following F1 and motor racing in general for over 25 years and would also love to attend the Indy500 one day, I'm not jealous at all 😂 Not. At. All. 😉 Awesome, looks like a fun tour with a few cars on track as a nice bonus. Most have sounded brilliant :)

And just looking at the Pagoda? It's iconic and awesome.
The whole place is so awesome.
