For my second mid-week post, I have more backyard flowers to share!
When we redesigned our backyard, we dug up some tulip bulbs. We thought we planted them in one of the gardens, but apparently squirrels dug them up and replanted them for us. There are three tulips that have been growing for the past few years, but I think it’s time for us to grow a bunch of tulips. They do well in our area!
We have two fruit trees in our backyard that were planted by the original owner. Early in May, the blossoms are so beautiful! The larger tree hasn’t produced fruit as long as we’ve lived here, but at least we get to see some blooms.
One morning, I opened my downstairs bathroom window because it was warm in the house. I look up and see the early light hitting the blossoms. Even though I needed to go to work, I grabbed my camera to shoot outside for a few minutes.
The goal in designing our gardens was to make them as easy as possible. Due to ongoing droughts, we don't want to use much water to grow plants. A colleague gave us some iris bulbs, and they just thrive in Colorado!
I am hoping to find a Colorado group that exchanges plants. I’d love to thin our purple irises and exchange them for other colors (yellow, light purple, dark purple, maroon).
As we march towards June and July, our wildflower gardens start to bloom. They tend to bloom from May through September, so there is quite a wide variety of flowers. Because they are usually teeny tiny, I have to use my macro lens. It's always a challenge to get sharp images.
Blue Flax (Linum Lewisii). These flowers have never bloomed in the backyard, but I’m wondering if they were a part of the wildflower pack we planted late last year. I’m guessing they didn’t have a chance to bloom.
Western Wallflower (Erysimum Capitatum). This is the first time I shot the small wildflowers with my monopod (one leg of my new tripod), and it helped quite a bit with focus and sharpness. Now I know *shrug*
Cornflower (Centaurea Cyanus)
I love how delicate and light the petals are.
Be on the lookout for more mid-week flower posts throughout the summer!
I shared in posts almost all these same flowers months ago! You are so far behind us. You're photography is beautiful. Well done!
What a lovely garden you have. And those irises are super beautiful. Someone would be lucky to gain from your flowerbed thinning.
