Gosh that’s so beautiful 😍 Hawaii is a bucket list adventure for us, I hope we can make it happen someday! Meanwhile, we’ll enjoy your gorgeous images, thank you!😊
I always wondered that. Hawaii has always been totally financially unattainable for me. The flight costs alone would be hefty let alone the cost for accommodation. I wonder if buying van there to travel about with would lessen the cost somewhat.
Wow, what an incredible experience! Beautiful images. Last year we watched the sun set from Mauna Kea's summit followed by the stars emerging and satellites hurtling across the vast darkness. Also, it's wild to think snow occasionally blankets those peaks!
Awesome photographs. Things stood out for me for reasons I can't answer. The brightness of the sunrise was so bright that I needed to squint while viewing on my screen 😎.
That man taking photos above the clouds with no jacket on... 🥶
Excellent. Especially liked #2 and #12 in this series -- just personal preference -- plus the
'Star Wars" observatory image. The Earth has millions of beautiful places, and we homo sapiens have destroyed many more. Awaiting next weekend's snowstorm in Minnesota, and these photos will remind me of our January 2011 trip to Hawaii when we escaped the upper Midwest winter's attempts to kill us :)
I’ve also always been fascinated by the national parks, and by the clouds – although your experience of a sunrise in this magnificent place is out-of-this-world, my full attention went to the clouds. The sea of clouds! The sunrise is AMAZING! And the chant..
We love our national parks as well, and saw the sunrise from there when we were there in March. It did not disappoint. I have some good pictures of the observatory, and yes, very star wars like. I looked up the observatory and spent about an hour reading about it and other stuff on their website which was fascinating.
Incredibly beautiful photos! I saw the sunrise from Haleakala in March of 2008. Thanks for reminding me of this once-in-a-lifetime (for me) experience!
Great photos! My wife and I did this same trip in early September and had to be on the shuttle van at 2:15. Got up there around 4:30 from what I recall. We had a totally clear morning, and that meant a sea of stars overhead. It was spectacular watching the light change before sunrise actually occurred. Maui, followed by Kauai for another week was such a special adventure for us. So many photos to go through.
Woof - that's an early morning! But totally worth it!! We weren't at the summit early enough for stars, but since we were at the top of Pikes Peak early for the hill climb, we already had our full of stars on top of a mountain 😂 I agree, SO many pictures...
Wow amazing pictures Rachel. I’d love to visit Hawaii (and separately, I accidentally clicked unsubscribe instead of unsave using the Substack app - I am blaming my fat fingers and jet lag, but I immediately clicked subscribe again!)
Sweet!

Thanks Jennifer! It was a bucket list adventure for sure, and was a nice change of pace from our last few vancations.
Incredible. Nice photos. Really make me want to move Hawaii up the travel list to top spot.
Thanks Steven! It was an incredible morning. It'd be fun to van life and island, though we didn't look into it (but should have).

Really really cool picture.

Thanks Mark! That's fantastic - I can only imagine how incredible watching the sunset would be. I wish we had had time to do that!

Thaanks Kenneth! I'm happy to provide some sun and warmth in December 🤗

We're fleeing back to Colorado as we speak. Goodbye to the last three days of FOG and hello to some sunshine!
Those are beautiful photos especially of the sun coming up and dancing on the clouds!
Thank you Sheryl!

Exactly! Being above the sea of clouds felt like being in an airplane, yet we were out in the open. I've never experienced anything like it.

Ha! Exactly! We had to do all the research after we saw it 😉
This was fantastic! I really enjoyed this post! Thanks so much for sharing!
Thank you Amy! 🫶🏻
My, what incredible photographs and what a beautiful place. My wife has family members on Oahu and the Big Island but not on Maui.
Thank you Michael! It's quite magical on the summit.

Did you get up to West Maui by any chance?
Yep! We spent a couple of days in Kaanapali and a couple days in Kihei.

😂 Thanks Sarah! It was fantastic.
Absolutely incredible series of images! What a trip this must've been!
Thank you so much! It was a lovely spot.
Absolutely beautiful. What an amazing sunrise.
Thank you! Apparently every sunrise is like this, so it's a must visit location.
