Gorgeous! I do know how you feel. I went through something similar in 2014 when I left. We all know how that turned out! I hope for you that you made it out alive! 😜😘
I’ve always regretted that I never explored that part of Colorado. Saw the Spanish Peaks from the freeway one NYE on my way home from A Trip From Hell but never went back as I always intended to.
If you get the chance, there's a great drive that goes around the back of the Spanish Peaks, out of La Veta (make sure you pronounce it the way the LOCALS do), and back into Trinidad.
Yes! Highway 12! I've driven that while my husband was cycling. I found an adorable lab running along the road and picked him up. Luckily a local told me where the dog lived because he was known for getting out of his pen. It was quite the experience, lol. The view driving north was stunning - the afternoon light hit the Sangres juuuuuust right.
Your Spanish Peaks photos are great! I particularly like the one with the tree and pond in the foreground.
I may be at a midlife crisis point myself, but I find it a very good place to be. Kind of like stepping through a doorway, but now you get to chose the direction you want to go. All of your teaching experiences aren't left behind. They are incorporated in who you are and you carry that part of yourself with you as you now define the person you want to become. I hope it includes more adventures and photography, because I'm enjoying your essays!
Thank you for the kind words, Erik! While journaling on this trip, I defined some core values for myself moving forward including adventure and creativity. That definitely means more van trips and photography 😂
What a beautiful, peaceful weekend for you. I hope you got the mindful nourishment you needed. The views (images) are magical. One thought I had: I think you should name your van. 😉
Ha ha! Thank you ❤️ We managed to name our van. My husband and I are huge Colorado College hockey fans - we'd have season tickets for 15 years. Their old mascot is called Prowler, so that's our van's name 😂
Love it. Embrace the new normal. This is all you! Benjamin
Thanks Benjamin! 🫶🏻
Totally agree, embrace the new normal and please keep sharing your van journeys and photos 😁
Will do!
Lovely to see these photographs Rachel!
Thank you Shital!

There are too many beautiful places in Colorado! ❤️
That looks to be an amazing location, looking forward to your next adventure.📷🥾
