I used to drive through this valley for work. One of my favorite driving "reveals" comes when you are heading east on Hwy 24 and you crest the Tennessee Pass, which is also on the Continental Divide, and you get your first view of the Collegiates.

I'm so envious you drove the valley so often! I've never driven Tennessee Pass, so I'll have to make my husband drive me sometime. I'm sure he's cycled it before 😂

If you came down from Minturn, then you went over the Tennessee Pass, are you thinking of Independence Pass, from Aspen? That is also a gorgeous drive. If you ever get a chance, I would also suggest taking the Shrine Pass road (not for passenger cars), from Vail Pass to Red Cliff. Also, the Homestead Reservoir Rd, off of Hwy 24, going up to Homestake Res. is a great drive too.

Oh, ha ha! I guess I have done Tennessee Pass 🤣 I've only done Independence Pass once - would love to do so in the fall. And we've been to Red Cliff... that bridge! 😍

Been there. God's Country for sure. I've a few photos of the same mountains in my Substack archives too.

There’s a stunning small lake backcountry below the summit of Antero. I backpacked there in college before I got into photography. I’d love to go back because it is one of the most gorgeous settings.
