I've stood in that very doorway in Ironton. It's a good thing that the route you took is so far out of the way and difficult to access, otherwise...

There's also a road/hike that goes from Telluride to Ouray. I have never hiked the whole way, but I did get from Telluride to the summit... once. There is an old mine called, Tomboy, near the top. Very little left but old wood that no longer bears resemblance to any kind of structure. I cannot imagine trying to work at anything, let alone mining, at 12,000 feet.

No kidding. I don't remotely function at that elevation! I thought about that a lot while on Corkscrew Pass and in Yankee Boy Basin.

I've been to ,Yankee Boy! This is the most amazing newsletter for high mountains lovers like me who don't really come to life until we get above treeline. (Always hated this bug infested forest pack ins). I have a shout out to you and your newsletter today in my rag!

Ouray's my favorite spot in Colorado. So amazing down there.

We definitely fell in love with the area, that's for sure! Now Adam's trying to figure out where he can bike 😂

Lots of great riding around there. Some friends and I did a mtn bike tour over the dirt mountain passes there several years ago.

Day 1: ride up Red Mountain Pass from Ouray, then hit Black Bear Bass to cross over the ridge to Telluride.

Day 2: Ophir Pass from Telluride to Silverton.

Day 3: Loop day - rode up over California & Hurricane Passes, ended back in Silverton.

Day 4: Cinnamon Pass to Lake City.

Day 5: Engineer Pass to get back to Red Mountain Pass and back down to Ouray.

So cool: jeeping! Gorgeous views. (And love that image of the gem of a crumpling house with the crooked stairs.)
